Island of Java Spa Package

Experience the royal treatment straight from the ancient kingdoms of Central Java.

In the 17th Century the Javanese Lulur treatment was practiced in the Palaces of Central Java as a "purifying" ritual for Javanese princesses for 40 days prior to marriage. Still used today in the Palace, known as the Keraton, these ancient treatments are based on the traditional healing properties of Jamu a thousand year old remedy from the rice farmers of Java. The knowledge used in creating these rituals has been handed down, for centuries, from generation to generation and is recognized as a traditional medicine. It is believed to help warm the body, relieve aching joints as well as soothe sore muscles. The history is that the hand crushed spice would be applied on the legs after a hard day's work of standing in the rice paddies. Lulur from the Javanese language of Indonesia, meaning "coating the skin" uses a mixture of finely powdered spices and sweet woods to soften and refine their skin through gentle exfoliation.

The treatment is now enjoyed by both women and men for its ability to freshen and rid the skin of impurities leaving the client with a soft golden glow (a product of the golden colour of the turmeric). Lulur is very popular as an exfoliating, polishing treatment for the body. In Java it is used by young woman to help aid in the recovery of troubled skin, as well as newborn babies to tauten the skin and fight infection.

Your treatment begins with a Javanese massage with aromatic oils and then flows into our exfoliation scrub using the Lulur recipe of Fenugreek, turmeric, sandalwood, cinnamon and rice powder and other herbs are mixed to a paste with Jasmine oil that is applied to the body to dry and then polished off. After cool yoghurt is applied to further soften and nourish your skin. This is followed by a fragrant flower filled bath of rose, jasmine and frangipani and a drink of Jamu herbal tonic while you are relaxing completes the treatment.
